Pharma Nutrition (2013), j.phanu.2013.11.In this episode, Syd covers the fascinating story of Dr. Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA)-promiscuous anti-inflammatory and analgesic molecule at the interface between nutrition and pharma. Keppel Hesselink JMK, Kopsky DJ, Witkamp RF. Professor Rita Levi-Montalcini on Nerve Growth Factor, Mast Cells and Palmitoylethanolamide, an Endogenous Anti-Inflammatory and Analgesic Compound. Non-neuronal cells therefore, such as glia and mast cells, need much more attention and the above review is an important milestone to treat the myopic focus on neurons alone. Neuropathic pain most probably is much more 'Gliopathic pain' than we ever thought. One could even state that 'Proof of Concept' of glia as an important new target for treating chronic pain has been substantiated by the various clinical trials were PEA was tested in a variety of neuropathic pain states, for instance in nerve compression syndromes (sciatic pain, carpal tunnel syndrome), diabetic neuropathic pain, and pain and loss of function after chemotherapy. PEA's modulating effects on glia most probably is dependent on its affinity for the PPAR receptors, although PEA is a real pleiotropic molecule, as we discussed in some detail, and I am so bold to add two references of my papers related to these topics. PEA is an endogenous modulator and restores active mast cells into resting phenotypes again. It was the great Nobel laureate professor Rita Levi-Montalcini who first discovered PEA's mechanism of action in 1993 related to overactive mast cells. If we conduct a simple Pubmed search based on 'palmitoylethanolamide glia' we find 25 papers. There are many preclinical and clinical trials supporting PEA's efficacy and safety. The more so, as the safety profile of the compound is impressive and no drug-drug interactions have been described. It is freely available in Europe as a food supplement in a capsules of 400 mg and thus one could very well state that palmitoylethanolamide is the first glia-modulator fit for prescribing. Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) has been explored since its first description in 1957 and found to be a clinically relevant inhibitor of inflammation and an analgesic compound. I miss in their elaborate review all references to palmitoylethanolamide, a natural, endogenous lipid messenger and glia modulator. The history of glia is nicely described in a number of papers, and summarized on In a the textbook 'Lehrbuch der Histologie' from Szymonowicz (1925) the secretory functions of glia are already highlighted, based on the work of Nageotte and Collin. The history of our insights in the functions of glia is extremely interesting. Here they mention Nissl as first author to describe glia in 1899, while in general Virchow is regarded to have described glia already in 1856 as nervous glue: 'Nervenkit.' In their introduction they give a short history of the emergence of insight in glia and its functions. The important and brilliant review of Cherry and colleagues highlights the various modifications of microglia and the complex functionality related to the various phenotypes. Best screens for mac mini m112/3/2023 You can also connect a GoPro camera to your M1, but I’ve had difficulty getting it to work with the new M1 chips. You’ll want a video capture device like the $230 Elgato Cam Link 4K. I have an Anker model with eight ports, and I’m able to swap out various devices while keeping my off-board sound system (the Scarlett 2i2) and Logitech MX Master 2S mouse plugged in. You’ll also want a good powered USB dock. I bought an external hard drive and turned it into a “junk” drawer for downloads and the like. As mentioned, my old iMac had 3TB on board, and that was more than enough. The Mac Mini maxes out at 512GB, which I noticed was getting full almost immediately. Because the Mini only has two USB-C and two USB-A ports, you’re going to want the expansion. But what you’re looking for is a USB-C-compatible monitor with some expansion ports. You can go cheaper - about $530 for the BenQ PD2700Q - or go wild with the LG 38WN95C-W at $2,300. That said, the difference between the laptop, the iMac, and this screen is minimal. I noticed a minor difference in colour and brightness, and the screen was slightly smaller than the 27 inches I was used to and, in retrospect, I should have probably picked up a bigger one given that this is my daily driver. I went for the $900 LG 24-inch UltraFine 4K UHD IPS Monitor, which offers much of the brightness and clarity of the original iMac. I traded in the iMac and set up the Mini. Everything worked perfectly.Īfter the death of my iMac, I wanted something similar in power with a great screen, something that I loved about the huge, bright Retina screen my old one had. I used an old monitor, a nice keyboard, and a Logitech mouse. It worked wonderfully, the UI was great (I wasn’t a Mac-head so I hadn’t used it probably since the PowerPC days), and I could add whatever peripherals I wanted. We can argue these points if you’d like, but for the average computer user, you were getting a Dell. They were cheaper, more ubiquitous, and except for a few art, music, and design apps, more capable. Remember, back then, unless you were a die-hard, you did all your real work on a Windows machine. I had a first-gen model in 2005, and it was my first real foray into Apple products. The Mac Mini is a computer dear to my heart. I could use an iPad and cry myself to sleep every night. I could keep working on this iMac and reboot constantly. What was I to do? I could use a laptop in the house, but those were taken by my kids and their remote schooling. Apple had reduced my once-capable machine to rubble. Everything would freeze and spin for a solid two minutes before the Grey Screen of Death appeared. I’d open multiple tabs in Safari and get a spinning beachball that resulted in a crash so hard that I was embarrassed for Apple CEO Tim Cook. Once I installed macOS Big Sur, however, things went downhill. And it lasted for almost seven years, a record given my habit of upgrading at every major Apple update. It had a massive, beautiful screen - one of the first Retina models, if I recall - great speed, and amazing performance. For years, I fired it up and got to work, transcoding video, recording podcasts, and writing books. My 2014 iMac, outfitted with a 3TB drive and maxed out RAM, was a dream machine. The velocity stack has a 2.25" overall height. All you need to connect it to your 3.5" cold air intake is a 3.5" silicone coupler and (2) hose clamps. The velocity stack has a 6" inlet and a 3" outlet. Included in each kit is a velocity stack, filter, and a hose clamp to connect the two together. That said, the same sort of benefits can be seen by adding a similar bellmouth (in this case a velocity stack) to the end of your cold air intake. This bellmouth is added because it increases the efficiency of air moving through the pipe by as much as 70% in the right situations. If you've ever looked inside an intake manifold, you've noticed a curved "bellmouth" profile at the inlet of each intake runner. A well-designed cold air intake and high-flow cone filter are great ways to let your engine breath better, but a filter on the end of a pipe has its limitations. Paying close attention to how air flows into and out of your engine is an obvious place to start making modifications for optimal performance. The velocity stack design smooths air flow for maximum performance. When it comes to getting the most power out of your engine, the devil is in the details. The Power Series 3 Intake System is fabricated with a high polished 3-inch turbo inlet pipe and a true 3 inside diameter MAF housing.

In 2005, Chip was redesigned into a wolf which possessed the same thieving characteristics as Cookie Crook. Near the end of the ads, the adults would change their minds once Chip gave them a taste of his Cookie Crisp. Typically an adult would interfere on the grounds that cookies are not breakfast food. In the format of the advertisements, Chip was a friendly pooch, no longer wearing a mask, who offered Cookie Crisp to a group of kids. From 1990 to 1996, while serving alongside the Cookie Crook in his schemes to steal Cookie Crisp, Chip would serve as a partial foil to the Cookie Crook, often by howling "Cooookie Crisp!" (with cookies in place of the Os in the word "cookie"), exposing them to Cookie Cop and, in some commercials, often saying "Doggone it" after his and the Cookie Crook's plans are foiled.Īfter General Mills bought the Cookie Crisp trademark Chip the Dog continued to be the mascot with the Cookie Crook and Cookie Cop from 1997 to 2005, with Cookie Crook and Cookie Cop removed from the commercials entirely. In 1990, the Cookie Crook was given a sidekick named Chip the Dog. Chip the Dog The Cookie Crook, the Cookie Cop, and Chip the Dog Eventually, the format of the ads changed to full animation, and the duo was portrayed as the size of normal humans an even more slapstick approach (similar to Looney Tunes) was used in these commercials. The Crook would have some new gadget or scheme to steal the cereal, but then the Cookie Cop would arrive and save the kid's cereal in the nick of time. In 1980, Cookie Jarvis was joined by Cookie Crook, an anti-hero robber who attempts to steal the Cookie Crisp in 1984 he was followed by his opponent, The Cookie Cop (full name Officer Crumb), a police officer (reminiscent of the Keystone Cops) with an Irish accent who thwarts the Cookie Crook's attempts to steal the Cookie Crisp.Ī typical ad would begin with the Cookie Crook attempting to steal the cereal from a live-action breakfast table often he and the Cookie Cop were portrayed as no larger than mice, so their pictures on the cereal bowl were "life-size". Aim 120 serno on jf 1712/2/2023 According to the Royal United Services Institute, the range performance of PL-12 stands between AIM-120B and AIM-120C-5. The domestic version of the PL-12 features a variable-thrust rocket motor with a range of 70–100 kilometres (43–62 mi), while the export variant SD-10 features a reduced range of 60–70 kilometres (37–43 mi). Per PLAAF assessment, PL-12's capability sits between AIM-120B and AIM-120C, and the improved PL-12A is claimed to be comparable with the AIM-120C-4. PL-12's overall dimension is larger than AIM-120 AMRAAM. The maximum range is estimated to be 100 kilometres (62 mi). The PL-12 may have a passive homing mode for use against jammers and AEW aircraft. The missile uses Chinese rocket motor and airframe. The guidance system comprises data-linked mid-course guidance and active radar homing for terminal guidance. But as of 2018, the PL-12 was no longer reliant on Russian components for missile production. The development process was assisted by Vympel NPO and Tactical Missile Corporation and benefited from Russian technology transfers. The early batches of PL-12 missiles reportedly used the 9B-1348 radar seeker designed for the R-77 missile. The missile entered People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) service in 2005. Four successful test firings were made in 2004. Liang Xiaogeng is believed to have been the chief designer. Development was assisted by Vympel NPO and Agat of Russia. The first public information of the Leihua Electronic Technology Research Institute's PL-12 – then called the SD-10 – emerged in 2001. History ĭevelopment of the PL-12 (SD-10) began in 1997. Alyce dixon ww ii wax musuem figures12/2/2023 The Danish court painter Johann Salomon Wahl executed figures of the Danish king and queen in about 1740. A seated figure of Peter the Great of Russia survives, made by an Italian artist, after the Tsar was impressed by the figures he saw at the Chateau of Versailles. There he executed works of the English king and members of his court. His work became so highly regarded that James II of England invited him to visit England in 1684. Thereafter, the king authorized the figurines to be shown throughout France. He exhibited forty-three wax figures of the French Royal Circle at his residence in Paris. Antoine Benoist (1632–1717) was a French court painter and sculptor in wax to King Louis XIV. In European courts including that of France the making of posed wax figures became popular. Wax museum in 1792 with the three fathers of the French Revolution, Franklin, Voltaire and Rousseau, installed at Elysium. Concerned for their revenue from visitors, the Abbey decided it needed a rival attraction for admirers of Nelson. Nelson's effigy was a pure tourist attraction, commissioned the year after his death in 1805, and his burial not in the Abbey but in St Paul's Cathedral after a government decision that major public figures should in future be buried there. The effigy of Charles II, open-eyed and standing, was displayed over his tomb until the early 19th century, when all the Westminster effigies were removed from the abbey itself. From the funeral of Charles II in 1680 they were no longer placed on the coffin but were still made for later display. The Westminster Abbey Museum in London has a collection of British royal funeral effigies made of varying materials going back to that of Edward III of England's wooden likeness (died 1377), as well as those of figures such as the naval hero Horatio Nelson, and Frances Stewart, Duchess of Richmond, who also had her parrot stuffed and displayed. After the funeral these were often displayed by the tomb or elsewhere in the church, and became a popular attraction for visitors, which it was often necessary to pay to view. In the Middle Ages it was the habit to carry the corpse, fully dressed, on top of the coffin at royal funerals, but this sometimes had unfortunate consequences in hot weather, and the custom of making an effigy in wax for this role grew, again wearing actual clothes so that only the head and hands needed wax models. The making of life-size wax figures wearing real clothes grew out of the funeral practices of European royalty. History before 1800 The funeral effigy (without clothes) of Elizabeth of York, mother of King Henry VIII, 1503, Westminster Abbey The origin of wax museums goes back to the early 18th century at least, and wax funeral effigies of royalty and some other figures exhibited by their tombs had essentially been tourist attractions well before that. Many museums or displays in historical houses that are not wax museums as such use wax figures as part of their displays. Some collections are more specialized, as, for example, collections of wax medical models once used for training medical professionals. Some wax museums have a special section dubbed the " Chamber of Horrors", in which the more grisly exhibits are displayed. Common penis shapes12/2/2023 The foreskin doesn’t need to be pulled back during masturbation or sex, and giving a handjob is more straight-forward. You might see a change in the flesh color where the foreskin was removed. There is often a ridge around the head, known as the corona. A penis of this type has a head or glans that’s thicker than the shaft and remains uncovered by any foreskin. This means it’s likely that, if you’re an American woman, you’re used to cut penises. A European man, for example, will likely be uncircumcised if he’s not Jewish. Outside the United States, circumcision is rarer and even seen as barbaric. Fewer than 60% of baby boys were circumcised as of 2008 (and some places in the western United States have rates well under 50%), and we wouldn’t be surprised to see even lower rates once new data becomes available. There was a 10% drop in newborn circumcision in the Unites States between 19. Rates have been falling for decades, however. It may also prevent transmission of STIs such as HIV. It was one promoted as the most hygienic practice, and nearly 90% of boys were circumcised at one point. The United States has a relatively high number of circumcised men and boys simply due to tradition and personal preference. Some parents choose to go through with the procedure with an infant as young as seven days old while others wait until their sons are seven years old or even in puberty. In Judaism, a ceremony known as a Bris is performed in front of family and friends to remove a boy infant’s foreskin by specialized person known as a mohel. There is a wider age range during which Muslim boys may have their foreskin removed. Circumcision is done for a variety of reasons.Ĭircumcision is practiced by members of the Jewish and Islamic faiths, as well as by some Christians for religious purposes that promote cleanliness.
